Welcome to the home of Steve Vaile
Producer, Recording Artist & Graphic Designer Steve Vaile’s passion is music, so everything this Pacific Northwest native does pretty much connects in some way to music and the music business (whether producing his original music or other artists). Steve was born into a musical family. His mother sang opera and his dad was a lap-steel guitar player in a country band. His first piano compositions were made on his mother’s heirloom upright piano. At 7 years old his first piano lessons came from Laurie Pratt, who directed his mom’s symphonic choir. When he wouldn’t practice the way the teacher wanted him to, his parents pulled him out of cub scouts to “teach him a lesson.” It didn’t really work, as he kept (making original and sometimes very spacey music) -- playing the music he heard in his head. During the school years that followed Steve participated in music classes; choir and even appeared in a ninth grade talent show. After graduation from chef school in the 70’s, Steve and a group of friends planned a trek to South America. Music is an international language. He became an expert at finding a piano in even the smallest of villages. One day in Quito, Ecuador, he went to a grand cathedral and asked the priest if he could play their pipe organ. Steve had played a pipe organ when he worked at the Washington State School for the Blind as a student chauffeur during college. The Ecuadorian priest allowed him to play in the sanctuary to his heart’s content. The old church would never be the same. “I mostly wrote and played my own compositions, but I remember playing old Bob Dylan tunes and I figured if I played really slow and majestically it would sound like ‘church music’.” Returning to the states he moved to San Francisco, then to Honolulu to live with an old buddy Jerry Santos of the Hawaiian group “Olomana” prior to Jerry’s release of his first hit album, “Seabird”. A year later Steve met composer Paul Lloyd Warner in Honolulu and was invited to come play on Maui. They lived on the slopes of the Haleakala Crater in Kula, Maui. Paul had a classical piano background and a massive classical record library. A finely tuned Mason and Hamlin grand piano was the centerpiece of the living room and concerts were a daily ritual. They added a multi-track recording deck to the studio and started recording under the Haleakala Foundation indie label. “Paul was a great teacher because although I was a rock and roll musician, the exposure to a classical musical background was priceless for song writing and understanding music arrangements.” In 1976, the year of America’s Bicentennial Celebration, Steve was invited to play at the Diamond Head Crater Festival. He had written special songs on autoharp and guitar –“Happy Birthday America” and “Dear Crater”, for the 3-day rock-fest celebration. A sailboat was chartered for the trip from Maui to Oahu and featured Steve and his bass player jamming on-deck. The sounds of the music attracted whales and dolphins to the side of the sailboat as they sailed between Molokaii and Oahu. “It was a great feeling to have these beings so close. I had never been on stage in front of 50,000 people performing by myself before, but after rocking out to the whales and dolphins I figured that playing for a crowd of people would be easy”. After returning to Maui he met film producer John Perry while playing his guitar by a stream in a waterfall valley. John and his lady-friend, Denise were filming a 'Save The Whales' picture. John and Denise were invited to our recording studio to hear the piano music we were recording. We ended up putting a white grand piano on the deck of the 65’ schooner, 'The Searunner', for John Perry’s film. (see the music video) The event was broadcast with underwater speakers to the whales and dolphins. Paul and Steve used hydrophones to hear the underwater sounds of the whales and dolphins (cetaceans). We then moved to Los Angeles for post-production recording and many concerts including one at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with Paul Horn. Steve returned to the Pacific Northwest to be close to his family who own the Soundtracks Records label and a state-of-the-art studio. There he began recording several CD's. Steve released "Crusade Through Stars" in 1985, an electronic soundscape experience. In 1992, he released "Point Alpha", a meditation and relaxation CD. "Point Alpha" is used in healing centers, hospices and reached the top-10 list at station CIUT-FM in Toronto. In 1996 he released "Gemstone Butterfly", a classic rock style album. His work, is service dedicated to raising human consciousness through music and media. This mission is further revealed in a his release, "Angel", which came about through years of his understanding that humanity is awakening to the realization that we are One Family. As we realize that we are a global community many opportunities arise for fundamental change in the assessment of who we are as a human family. As we shift into this higher connection with our Mother Earth, a new consciousness opens unto us like a virgin dawn... We need Heroes, be the Hero now.” "War Or Peace Prayer For The Soldiers", Steve's next single release was a rock symphony inspired to look for answers to peace through music and dedicated with gratitude to those brave heroes present, past and future serving to protect us at home and abroad. 'What About You' is next up and was influenced by the sounds of Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Jarre and Vangelis. A soaring new "Wall of Sound" orchestration of compassion and romance instrumental EP, was soon followed by a release of the vocal single, "What About You'. “A homeless man I met recently in Hawaii inspired this song. "What About You", were the first words that came out of his mouth when I offered him some food.” "What About You" is dedicated to those in need and all our homeless that struggle to survive.” Thanksgiving 2006 marked the newest release, 'You Comfort Me'.
